A Message from the Chapter President

The Southern District of Texas Chapter of the Federal Bar Association is dedicated to serving the needs of attorneys who practice in the Southern District of Texas. Established in 1959, the South Texas Chapter has become the second largest chapter of the FBA in Texas, with a membership of more than 300. Our members come from private practice, government agencies, military branches, local law schools, and the local courts.

The chapter holds monthly CLE luncheons with speakers ranging from federal judges, U.S. attorneys, heads of federal agencies, and lawyers involved in prominent federal cases. The chapter is committed to improving federal practice throughout the Southern District.  In addition to its monthly CLE luncheons in Houston, the Chapter will sponsor CLE events in other cities within the District.  The chapter is also committed to public service, and will continue to distribute and update its popular Senior Citizens Handbook, a booklet that its members edited. This year members of the Chapter will be going to various high schools within the District to assist teaching students about the rule of law and the Constitution.

Every year, the chapter hosts a gala dinner honoring all the federal judges of the Southern District. Proceeds from the dinner are used by the chapter to fund fellowships to law students.

We invite you to join us at any of our events. If you have not already done so, we also invite you to join the Federal Bar Association and the Southern District of  Texas Chapter.  A Young Lawyers Division has been formed for those who are age 36 or younger or have practiced less than three years.  Please contact Amy Johnson at fba.southtx@gmail.com if you are interested in participating.
